To give you deeper insight into the heart behind the crew and the event, we spoke with Sola Jones Ogunbadeniyi, PKA DJ Jones Jonzin, the visionary leading 5-Letter Gang. Here are some highlights from our conversation:
About 5-Letter gang
NKO: Can you tell us about the 5-Letter gang and what inspired its creation?
Jones: So 5-Letter Gang is an entertainment empire, which is not just limited to DJs alone. It's a group that covers all talents across the entertainment world. Be you a hypeman, MC, DJ, artist, songwriter, or an event maker, it brings everybody together. Say you want to run an event; with 5-Letter Gang, you don't need to run helter-skelter or go through the hassle of looking for vendors and certain talents, depending on what kind of event you want to do. The 5-Letter gang covers it all. That's what the 5-Letter gang is about.
What inspired its creation? Well, I grew up around entertainers. I had an uncle in particular who used to run events and stuff. And, you know, I've always been around him, and I see the way he does all these things: corporate events, club events, parties, shows, and all. And guess what? His main hassle has always been trying to put the "boys" together. You know, way back people were hustling, trying to put "boys" together. "Oh, I need this here. I need an MC here. I need this or that," you know, and I thought about it: what if you can just have a team that has all these things, and every event you go to, the team has their pattern and is organized, and you don't need to go through the hassle of "I'm not sure about who I'm working with" this and that. So I had that idea somewhere in me. You know, then the name "5-Letter Gang" just came up when I was in the studio with Gray Jones. Gray Jones is a producer and a sound engineer. He worked with a couple of artists that I know of, like MI, Eva, and Ice Prince, you know, and currently he is into movie production. He handled the sound for King of Boys. Yeah, so there's also a guy called Shay Jones. He's an artist and music executive. He introduced me to Gray Jones, and I am DJ Jones Jonzin. So there's Shay Jones, and there's Gray Jones, and we're in the studio one day trying to record a song, because I used to be a rapper, so trying to record a song and all. And Gray Jones just said,
"Oh, DJ Jones, Shay Jones, Gray Jones, oh, Jones 5-Letter Gang."
And it's that name that just stuck to my head, like, Oh, I like how that sounds. And that was where the name "5-Letter Gang" came from.
NKO: What is your mission and vision as a team?
Jones: Yeah, so as I said earlier, our mission is to have a group, an empire, that contains all talents across the entertainment world, and of course, being able to run events without the hassle. And the vision as a team is to have this go worldwide. I mean, being able to be as big as, you know, Roc Nation, Def Jam, you know, and be able to run any kind of event and be a number one name worldwide.
NKO: How would you describe your team culture, and what makes you unique?
Jones: What makes us unique is that we don't operate as a record label but rather like a group. You have your freedom. I mean, it's more like we are building on everyone's ideas. We create more ideas; we bring ideas together, discuss and build them, and then create more projects and ideas with that. That's what makes us unique. And trust me, it's a space where you can maximize your talent, your abilities, and your creativity; that's what makes us unique.
NKO: What achievements or milestones are you most proud of?
Jones: We're still a work in progress, but I'm really proud of the fact that we are able to stabilize the event called "Party with 5-Letter Gang," which is always hosted by the team and has been going on for five years now. Also proud that we have certain key talents already that are doing well. We have an official hypeman, and we have other DJs. We are still planning to have artists on board. We've got producers, we've got content creators, and they are really doing well across the country, and they are really growing. And like I said, we are a work in progress, and we are still looking forward to doing better.
NKO: Who are the key team members behind this event, and what roles do they play?
Answer: The key team members behind this event. Oh, wow. I mean, everybody is a key team member. Trust me, everybody, down to the hypeman, DJ, content guys, coordinator, and event manager. Everybody is, because every aspect matters; it's a joint effort, like I said earlier. So everybody is a key member, even the guests; they are key members because they have their role to play. Everybody has their role to play. So everybody is a key member.
About Party with 5-Letter gang
NKO: What inspired the creation of this party with the 5-letter gang? How did the idea first come about?
Jones: Party with the 5-letter gang is a rave where people can connect. Have a good time; take a break from the norm of being an adult, you know, the bills and stuff, where you can while away and enjoy yourself. You don't have to spend too much to have a great time. Enjoy good music, get exposed to new things and new talents, and then also connect, you know, connect with different people all across, make new friends, and get new contacts, and, you know, that's just the idea of Party with 5-Letter Gang, and also get familiar with the team and the group named 5-Letter Gang.
NKO: What makes this edition different from previous ones?
Jones: Yeah, this edition; the previous ones have been parties and all. This is the first rave. This is a whole different concept, so this makes it different from the previous ones we've had. This is going to be like a proper rave. And guess what? It's an indoor rave. So it's just on another level. I don't want to say too much. I mean, when you come, you definitely are going to understand what I mean, because I know how to picture it in my head and put it in a drawing, in a sketch. I really don't know how to explain. And the good thing is, my team understands me, and we always know how to bring that sketch to life. Yeah.
NKO: Who is Party with 5-Letter Gang specifically designed for?
Jones: It’s specifically designed for every key member in the team, especially the talents. It's the platform for everyone to showcase themselves. This is about the hypeman, the DJs, the artists, and each talent while they do their individual thing. So it is specifically designed for the team. I'm just a host, so people think it's majorly about me. No, it's not just about me. That's why it's called "Party with the 5-Letter Gang." So party with us, everybody.
NKO: Are there any special highlights or surprises planned for this edition?
Answer: Oh, well, there are lots of surprises and highlights for the event. I mean, I'm not going to mention it here; that's why it's a surprise, but trust me, you would never attend the 5-letter gang party and not have a good time.

NKO: If you could describe this party with the 5-letter gang in three words, what would they be?
Jones: Party of life. That's it. Party of life.
